This past Thursday, Conn Kavanaugh joined in the 19th Annual Walk to the Hill for Civil Legal Aid event, sponsored by the Equal Justice Coalition, BBA, MBA, and other bar associations. Attorneys and law students converged at the State House to demonstrate their support for state funding for civil legal aid. These programs help low-income residents resolve issues related to housing, health care, immigration, domestic violence, disability benefits, and other life-altering issues. Unfortunately, lack of funding forces these programs to turn away 65% of the eligible residents who seek essential legal advice and representation (45,000 people each year).
Conn Kavanaugh attorneys, Thomas J. Gallitano, Erin K. Higgins, Carol A. Starkey, Sheila B. Giglio, Julie M. Muller, and team captain Catherine M. DiVita heard from various speakers, including the Chief Justice of the Supreme Judicial Court, the presidents of the Massachusetts and Boston Bar Associations and a client speaker, about the critical role that civil legal aid plays in ensuring equal access to justice. Many of them then visited their state Senators and Representatives to foster their support.
